Smithereens bring strings and horns to Light of Day performance

The Smithereens headlined Saturday’s Light of Day Bob’s birthday bash show in Asbury Park. Their performance included a strings and horn section highlighting songs such as “Blue Period”, “Too Much Passion”, “Indigo Blues” and “Especially For You.”

Next stop for the Smithereens: California – where they play shows in Carmel-by-the-Sea and Poway.

“Horns and strings aren’t usually associated with the band — it’s guitar, bass and drums the guys ply their trade with. To underscore the point, the band rocked out on their “House We Used to Live In,” which segued into a cover of The Who’s “Sparks” from “Tommy.” Jim Babjak on guitar and Dennis Diken on drums were transfixing in a magical display of power.”
