The Smithereens’ own Dennis Diken has teamed up the podcast, Discograffiti, and its creator/host, Dave Gebroe. Their new series, titled “The Beach Boys: And Your Dreams Come True,” takes a deep-dive into the music of this legendary band.
Here's what Dennis has to say about the podcast:
"I started following Discograffiti a few years ago when I heard the deep dive into The Association (with guests Terry Kirkman and Jules Alexander) on the podcast. I duly contacted Dave Gebroe and a torrid bromance erupted as we feverishly texted during my overnite “stay” at the LAX United lounge when my Newark-bound flight was cancelled. Much of the jabbering centered around The Beach Boys, a shared passion, so I discovered. That gabfest continued over the ensuing months which eventually led to Dave asking me to co-produce a series on our favorite band. My involvement boils down to spitballing, helping young Gebroe find cool guests and jumping in the fray on a few shows. He does all the rest. And he does it very well.
Here's a sample episode with Dennis and Lenny Kaye discussing "Little Deuce Coupe.”
And so, I’ll let him take it from here. Dave?"
"My music obsessives’ podcast Discograffiti has been building toward this for over 3 years now…”The Beach Boys: And Your Dreams Come True” is off and running, and Dennis & I promise you an experience like none other, no matter how many books and films you’ve seen on The Boys.
The level of detail on display is what we are after. We’ve all heard the same old stories a million times over, and now while some really important people are still around, we want to explore the soul of the group from those who were there when it all happened. And to dig the colors of the band’s spirit through a varied array of compelling perspectives.
The series features a slew of over 50 top-shelf guests ranging from musicians inspired by their work, family members, documentary directors, songwriting collaborators, Beach Boys authors, producers, touring band members, and, for good measure, some of the Beach Boys themselves."
